To support writing programs in the public schools in the 2006-07 year.

Bay Area Women’s and Children’s Center, San Francisco - $10,000
To support the Tenderloin Children’s Academic Enrichment Program to improve literacy in 1st – 3rd graders at the Tenderloin Community School.

East Bay Agency for Children, Oakland - $5,000
To support the Eagle’s Nest after-school program at Hawthorne Elementary and the East Oakland Community Charter School.

East Oakland Community Center/The Avenues Project - $10,000
To support the Urban Sociology Teacher Pipeline, a program at East Oakland Community High School and Youth Empowerment High School, to help at-risk youth prepare for college and a potential teaching career.

Home Book Program, San Francisco - $6,300
[Philanthropic Ventures Foundation]

To purchase books for nine classes of kindergarten and first grade students at Diane Feinstein Elementary School, with the goal of developing reading readiness and involving parents more in reading with their children.

Jewish Coalition for Literacy - $10,000
[Jewish Community Relations Council of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin, Sonoma, Alameda and Contra Costa Counties]

To support an early literacy program, Jump in Kindergarten, designed to improve reading readiness in low income school populations in San Francisco, East Bay, and on the Peninsula.

To support the Educational Advancement Program which helps low income high school students prepare for college. Made as a matching grant (1:1) to stimulate greater board giving.

KIPP Bayview Academy, San Francisco - $10,000
To support expansion of the High School Placement Program at this new charter school.

Live Oak School, San Francisco - $5,000
To support a capital campaign for a new physical education and multi-use space.

Northern California Grantmakers, San Francisco - $2,500
To support the Summer Youth Project, a pooled grant fund for summer programs serving underprivileged children.

Partners in School Innovation, San Francisco - $10,000
To support Leadership Networks for principals and teachers in the San Francisco Unified School District’s 30 STAR (low-performing) schools.

San Francisco Arts Education Funders Collaborative - $10,000
[San Francisco Foundation Community Initiative Funds]

To support professional development activities in arts education for public elementary school teachers in the San Francisco Unified School District.

Schools Mentoring and Resource Team/SMART, San Francisco - $10,000
To support the after-school and summer enrichment programs for disadvantaged middle school youth who are attending independent schools.

To support development of instructional materials for a new Teacher Facilitator Training program designed to help institutionalize learning communities.

To support a tutoring program at Selby Lane School in Redwood City.

To support the Chapter O.N.E. (Oral Narrative Experience) Residency Program in eight public high schools.
