For school-based literacy programs, specifically the Writers’ Rooms at Everett Middle School and James Lick Middle School.

Center for the Art of Translation, San Francisco - $7,000
To support a creative writing program for public school students in San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, and Marin Counties.

Charles Armstrong School, Belmont - $10,000
To support the core language program at this school for students with language-based learning disabilities.

Children’s Empowerment, Colma - $5,000
To support a 10th grade prep class for the California High School Exit Exam at Jefferson High School in Daly City.

Community Alliance for Learning, Albany - $7,000
For the Writer Coach Connection program in East Bay middle and high schools, where volunteers regularly work with students on their writing assignments.

East Bay Agency for Children, Oakland - $4,000
For the academic component of the Eagle’s Nest after-school program serving World Academy and Achieve Academy in the Fruitvale District.

Faith Network of the East Bay, Oakland - $5,000
To support a natural sciences program for eight public Oakland schools.

First Graduate, San Francisco - $7,500
To support an academic summer program for disadvantaged middle school students who are supported over 10 years to become the first in their families to graduate from college.

Friends of the Children, San Francisco - $7,000
For the academic component of the after-school mentoring program for at-risk elementary and middle school students.

Leadership Public Schools, Richmond - $6,500
For the Academic Support Program for students at Richmond High, a charter school.

Marin County School Volunteers, San Rafael - $10,000
To support an academic tutoring program in Marin County public schools which have a high percentages of disadvantaged students.

Partners in School Innovation, San Francisco - $5,000
To support a literacy-based teacher development program in 5 San Francisco public schools with large populations of under-performing students.

Peninsula Bridge, Menlo Park - $5,000
For the academic summer program at seven sites which serves public school students from underprivileged neighborhoods.

Streetside Stories, San Francisco - $3,000
To support the Storytelling Exchange residency program in disadvantaged public middle schools in San Francisco and Oakland.

Summer Youth Project, San Francisco - $1,000
For a pooled grantmaking program of Northern California Grantmakers which funds summer activities for disadvantaged children.
