Other Grants :: Christine Elbel Linchpin
This grant program provides multi-year, general operating support for critical Bay Area arts service organizations. It is named to honor the Foundation’s former Executive Director of thirty years (1990-2020), Christine Elbel, who developed the initiative prior to her retirement. Three-year grants of $10,000 annually are awarded to organizations whose primary mission is to advance the Bay Area arts community by serving an arts discipline in a broad and sustained way.
Each Elbel Linchpin grantee offers an array of programs and services to artists and arts organizations, and functions as an advocate for its art form and artists both locally, and at times, nationally. Examples of services offered include: resource and referral centers; technical assistance; fiscal sponsorship; newsletters; policy and funding advocacy; marketing; showcases of new work; subsidized artistic and administrative space; and re-granting programs.
During its long history of funding the arts, the Foundation has recognized the importance of arts service organizations to the vitality and health of the Bay Area’s arts community. We consider Elbel Linchpin arts organizations to be crucial entities providing services to a large number of artists and arts ensembles.
