Nimah Gobir

Nimah Gobir is an Oakland-based artist and educator whose work explores Black identity through family history, memory, and domestic life. She creates layered paintings and textile-based installations that combine expressive brushwork and embroidery. Her work has been exhibited at the Museum of the African Diaspora, SOMArts, Johansson Projects, and Root Division, and featured in Hyperallergic, 48Hills, and SF/Arts. She earned her BFA from Chapman University and an M.Ed. from Harvard Graduate School of Education. Gobir was part of Recology’s 2024 Artist in Residence cohort and is a Headlands Center for the Arts Tournesol Awardee. She is currently extending her practice into image transfer, immersive environments, and soft sculpture.
