Francesca Pastine

Francesca Pastine repurposes ARTFORUM magazines and The New York Times in order to conflate larger global narratives with her lived experience. She is interested in the external world and how it is perceived through our relationship with printed media, received images, and everyday objects. She has had solo exhibitions at Eleanor Harwood Gallery in San Francisco, Pentimenti Gallery in Philadelphia, PA and James Harris Gallery in Seattle, WA. Her recent group exhibitions include the Museum of Craft and Design in San Francisco, the Center for Contemporary Art in Santa Fe, NM, the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art in Charleston, SC, Radiator Gallery in Long Island City, NY, Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, CA, and the Fellows of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. Pastine recently completed a print collaboration with LAB Magazine (2013). She has been featured in 96 Hours by Kimberley Chung in The San Francisco Chronicle in 2011, New American Paintings in 2010, and the Marin Independent Journal in 2009. Pastine’s work has been reviewed in The Wall Street Journal, Philadelphia City Paper, The San Francisco Chronicle, New Art Examiner, The Stranger, the Oakland Tribune, and Artweek. She received a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant in 2009 and a Kala Art Institute Fellowship and Residency in 2011. Her 1996 MFA is from the San Francisco Art Institute; she is represented by Eleanor Harwood Gallery in San Francisco. *Artist biography at time of award.
